Teach Us to Pray
Out of all the recorded life between Jesus and his disciples, there is only one time that they specifically ask Jesus to teach them something. Sure they had questions about his teaching from time to time that they just flat out didn’t understand. But there is only time you find them proactively coming to Jesus and saying, “Jesus… rabbi, teach us to “fill in the blank.” And out of all the things they could have asked Jesus to teach them, this is what they choose. They didn’t ask, “Lord, teach us to heal. Or Lord, teach us to draw a crowd. Teach us to preach. Teach us to mobilize…. None of which would have been wrong. But this is what they ask… “Lord, teach us to pray.” This is the one thing that they were itching to learn from Jesus. To have a prayer life modeled after Him.
