Off the Map - 1 Peter
Any map, whether paper or digital, provides a sense of direction, stability and reassurance. This is where you are. This is where you are going. This is how you get there. But what happens the place God calls you to live is no longer on the map? To borrow the phrases from Peter’s first letter, how do you live when you are “strangers” and “elect exiles?” In so many ways with so many changing issues, our cultural moment feels less predictable and increasingly off the map. Right now, the only constant is change itself.
In this season, biblical letters like 1 Peter, written to the elect exiles of Asia Minor, strike a new chord with refreshing relevance. Learning from the saints who have gone before, we are reminded that life off the map is not a curse but a blessing filled with new opportunity. And as we take the posture of sojourners in exile, the gospel will not only survive but thrive for God’s glory and the good of our city. May we have ears to hear from the Spirit as He guides us into a new expression of following Jesus.
